Drawing portraits from a pohotograph is an amazing experiance for me. Maybe due to the amount of time spent trying to get this look in the eyes of the model, he somehow become closer to my heart. Sometimes I feel as if I knew this person better by trying to understand what he felt during the shoot and how to show it in the drawing. Even more interesting feeling accompanies my drawing children. I guess this is because I am still waiting for my very own one and somehow I transfer my love onto the drawing. The similarly special, but maybe more metaphysical experience I get while working on restoring old photographs of people who are no longer alive. It's really amazing.
Rysowanie portretów ze zdjęcia jest dla mnie niezwykłym doświadczeniem. Możliwe że przez ilość czasu, którą spędzam próbując "złapać" to spojrzenie w oczach modela, staje się on jakoś bliższy memu sercu. Czasem czuję się jakbym znała tą osobę lepiej próbując zrozumieć co czuł w trakcie robienia zdjęcia i jak to pokazać w rysunku. Jeszcze ciekawsze uczucie towarzyszy mi gdy rysuję dziecko. Domyślam się że to przez to że sama jeszcze czekam na moje własne i jakoś przelewam moją miłość na rysunek. Podobnie wyjątkowe, choć może bardziej metafizyczne, doświadczenie towarzyszy mi kiedy pracuję nad odnawianiem starych fotografii ludzi którzy już nie żyją. To naprawdę niezwykłe.

Well, what can I say..There was a time in my life when I really apprieciated Lempicka's style of painting. Sometimes it just gives me pure technical joy to copy her.

Cóż mogę powiedzieć.. Był czas w moim życiu, kiedy naprawdę doceniałam styl malowania Łempickiej. Czasem po prostu  kopiowanie jej daje mi czysto techniczną radość.

This is one of my latest copies of Tamara de Lempicka. I like this one because of a combination of nudity and innocence of the two women. The freshness of flowers and an obligatory red lips make it really positive painting and make me smile each time I look at it.

To jedna z moich ostatnich kopii Tamary Lempickiej. Lubię ten obraz przez to połączenie nagości i niewinności tych dwóch kobiet. Świeżość kwiatów i obowiązkowe czerwone usta powodują uśmiech na mojej twarzy ilekroć na niego spojrzę.

Tamara de Lempicka was a woman who carefully created her own image. Although she was not a beautiful woman, she was extremely elegant, which, together with calm gesture and look worked out to perfection, she conquered Hollywood. She is said to be a great grand mother of pop-star culture. I like to think of her that way.

Tamara Lempicka była kobietą która dokładnie tworzyła swój wizerunek. Pomimo iż nie była piękną kobietą, jednak jej wyjątkową elegancją wraz z opanowanym do perfekcji gestem i spojrzeniem podbiła Hollywood. Niektórzy mówią że jest ona prababcią gwiazd pop kultury. Lubię tak właśnie o niej myśleć.

 

Tamara de Lempicka is one of my mother's favourite painters. In her house, full of beautiful self-made treasures, which you can see for yourself on her blog, there are already four copies of this artist that I have made for her for different occasions. Maybe I'll post them some of these days..
